In our little rock garden here in rather less than sunny Albufeira! The wet weather has brought everything out.

Albufeira green and wet

In Albufeira on April 19, 2018 by cubsur51 Tagged: ,

The recent rain has brought out the flowers. Supermarket garden.

The little stream that runs towards and then under the town is flowing fairly well.

The problem for me is that flowers and blossoms mean pollen! Hayfever time is here. I must be almost alone in looking forward to the forecast rain for Friday afternoon and the weekend.

Sunflowers

In France,Médoc on July 23, 2017 by cubsur51 Tagged:

Cycled past this huge field of sunflowers at a place called Neyran. I measured it later on a map as about 400 metres x 350 metres.

A brave little flower – updated

In Pictures from England on July 6, 2017 by cubsur51 Tagged: ,

Shows how amazing nature can be I think.

In the centre of Eastbourne, alongside a hoarding closing off a huge building site, a brave little flower has set up home.

Terminus Road, Eastbourne, where the several bus stops mean it is very busy, very dusty and generally not very clean.

The red circle shows where it is.

And yesterday I saw another lonely little flower, the only one of its colour I noticed all day. This was on the Eastbourne Downs near Beachy Head, an area of chalky hills.

May colours

In Albufeira on May 1, 2017 by cubsur51 Tagged: ,

If you are a wild flower person, you would be happy here! I am sure the local bees are also, plenty of humming and buzzing to be heard. I am not a flower person, they give me hay fever, which is noticeable today. But the colours are nice, so I took these while out for a stroll earlier.

Spring in Albufeira

In Albufeira,Algarve,Portugal on March 28, 2017 by cubsur51 Tagged: , ,

Additional pictures now successully uploaded.

After several days of wet and windy weather, culminating in a squally storm on Sunday the like of which we haven’t had here in a very long time, the sun was out today. I took the opportunity for a couple of walks, not the least because new owners are now above me in the apartment block, not just one but two apartments. They are busy smashing down walls, stripping old tiles, ripping out old kitchens and generally making on hell of a racket. Can’t hear meself think at times. Anyway they have stopped now.

All these pictures were taken today, 28th March 2017

We will start with some nice colours.

The recent rain means there is a lot of water in the river that from here flows under the town and out to sea.

Everywhere there are insects buzzing around the wild flowers, doing what ever it is they do.

Not far from where these pictures were taken, a large area of what was to have been yet another holiday resort is gradually returning to nature. Not a brick was ever laid. For anyone who knows the areas, this is opposite the Eden Resort, about 1km out of town.

Nearby is the long established Clube Albufeira complex.

It’s on the left of this picture, which also shows the N395 road north towards Ferreiras.

And this is the Eden resort from a bit of a distance

Some views of the wooded hills near Páteo, not far from where I live.

And looking north past the retail park are the hills around Salir and Alte.

England U-17 1 Netherlands U-17 0

In Albufeira,Sports - football,Sports - football, soccer on February 14, 2017 by cubsur51 Tagged: , , ,

The final game of England’s U-17 short tournament down here in the Algarve. They had lost to Portugal and beaten Germany before this game.

The scene was rather a contrast to the paddy fields of Saturday! A crowd of about 250 watched an interesting but not spectacular game, which ended in a 1-0 win for England. The only goal was a short-range header by Stephen Walker of Middlesbrough FC after 31 minutes. England had by far the better of the game  until the final few minutes, when a Dutch rally almost created an equaliser.

Here is the team sheet. Keep it for 4 or 5 years and see then how many are playing in the Premier League. Bet you no more than one or two!

I took a few pictures, not very good as I only had my small camera.

A few moments later, England’s goalkeeper made a fine save from a long range shot to give Englna a fairly well deserved win.
