I started around the Barrio dos Pescadores (Fishermen’s village), which was built not all that long ago as a place for the fishermen to live. It is situated right above the Fishermen’s Beach (Praia dos Pescadores) which until recently was the centre of the Albufeira fishing trade.A zig zag set of steps set into the clifff (now replaced by the escalators) allowed them to get down to the beach and back up.

The boatsheds and fishmarket were demolished in 2007 and relocated to the new marina. The area is now a rather bleak looking flat area of paving slabs used for outdoor exhibitions and musical events.

If you would like to see some shots from before the demolition works, take a look at this small collection of mine from 2006 http://sdrv.ms/1c07N2X

After a walk around the barrio, I continued around the back of the Câmara (town hall), down past the Continente / Modelo shopping centre and some of the side streets there. Then it was along the footpath behind various hotels out as far as the Rua Dunfermline and the Forte do Vale. I also took a few shots in the quiet side streets around there.

For anyone who’s interested, there are a lot of old pictures of Albufeira in a local forum here http://www.albufeira.com/forum/photo-sharing-partilha- de-fotos_forum31.html

Found all over the internet and from private collections.

Next stop around Albufeira will be Cerro Grande – by popular request!

That will be soon.

In the meantime I wish all visitors a Happy Christmas.
