Canfranc village – last of holiday pix

These are the last of the holiday pictures, just a few shots around Canfranc taken on my day out in Spain. And a couple at Pau station and Oloron Ste Marie on the way.

Except that people were speaking Spanish and the signs were in Spanish, this didn’t really look like Spain. There are popular ski resorts a few km to the north and west. Obviously not ski-ing season in August, but the area is popular with walkers and hikers. It was also one of the ways pilgrims used to get to Santiago de Compostela. There are few crossing points over the Pyrénées. The Somport or Canfranc pass (1632 metres above sea level) was on the route from Arles and the Occitan region into Aragon.  But the pilgrims still had over 500 miles to go!
