Albufeira N395 roadworks and more

In Uncategorized on March 17, 2010 by cubsur51

These pictures were taken on Sunday 14th March.

The heavy rain of January and February flooded the roadworks sites and all but brought work to a halt. Last Sunday men were working on some sections, while others were still drying out. The river was flowing fairly fast and deep in its new channel behind the Repsol garage. There is a great deal of work still to do if this project is to be completed before the summer traffic hits.

The site of the new multi-storey car park at the top of the Avenida da Liberdade was also flooded. The drilling rigs have gone and there was no sign of any activity. I doubt if much can be done until the area dries out, as the machinery was just sinking. I somehow cannot see this being completed before the summer rush, so you can all look forward to massive traffic problems when everyone heads for the old town to find that there is no parking.

The good news is that the hideous new car park on the other side of town, near the top of the escalators, is now open for business. It’s open 24/7 in the peak summer months but keeps limited hours otherwise including a 3pm closure on Sundays out of season. That will catch out a few people I am sure!

This is the exit. The entrance is signposted from the streets in the area.

Elsewhere in Albufeira, the Oceanville development is still dark awaiting the outcome of discussions between the developers and the local authorities on various misdeeds. The place has been empty for about 18 months now, so I wonder about the condition of the interiors.

But the sun was shining and the new car park roof gives a nce view of the old town.

The next album will be a few pictures from my very wet day out at Batalha.
